الليالي البيضاء (بالروسية: Белые ночи) قصة قصيرة من تأليف الكاتب الروسي فيودور دوستويفسكي. القصة تُعدُّ من أوائل أعماله، ونُشِرت للمرة الأولى في عام 1848. وكالعديد من مؤلفات دوستويفسكي تُروَى القصة من منظور الراوي المجهول الاسم، وفي القصة يعيش الراوي في مدينة سانت بطرسبورغ، وهو يعاني من الوحدة. تُعدُّ هذه القصة من أفضل قصصه القصيرة، وعُرِضت على السينما في روسيا وإيطاليا وفرنسا وأمريكا والهند وإيران.الموضوع الرئيسي للقصة هو العلاقة بين الراوي - الشخصية الرئيسية مجهولة الاسم - وصديقته التي تعرَّف عليها حديثاً "ناستينكا". يقع الراوي في حبِّ ناستنكا، ولكنَّه لا يعترف بحبِّه لها، في الوقت الذي تكنُّ فيه ناستنكا حباً عميقاً لرجلٍ آخر يرفض الرد على رسائلها. يهرب كلاهما من الشعور باليأس إلى علاقة الصداقة الودية هذه، فالراوي يهرب من وحدته وناستنكا تهرب من علاقتها الفاترة مع حبيبها. تطلب ناستنكا من الراوي أن يساعدها في كتابة الرسائل إلى حبيبها، وهي لا تعرف أنَّ الراوي يحبُّها أيضاً حُباً جماً، بل وتخبره: «أنا أُحِبُّك، لأنَّك لم تقع في حبِّي». وبسبب حبِّه الشديد لها، يبدأ الراوي في الشعور بالغربة في صحبتها، لأنَّه يضطر إلى التظاهر بعدم محبته لها. عندما لا يردُّ حبيبها على رسائلها تشعر ناستنكا باليأس، خاصةً وأن حبيبها يعيش في نفس المدينة، فتلجئ إلى صديقها لعلَّه يواسيها، وهو ما يدفع الراوي إلى مصارحتها بحبِّه لها. تشعر ناستنكا في البداية بالارتباك، وهو ما لم يتوقَّعه الراوي، ومن ثمَّ يشعر أنَّه بعد هذه الحادثة لن يكون قادراً على متابعة صداقته معها، فيُصِرُّ على عدم رؤيتها مجدداً، ولكنَّها تطلب منه البقاء. يخرج الاثنان إلى الشارع، وتخبره أنَّ ربما تتحول علاقتهما يوماً ما إلى علاقة رومانسية، وهي بوضوح تريد صداقته في حياتها، فيشعر الراوي بالطمأنينة أنَّه استطاع الحفاظ على صداقتها على الأقل. وفي أثناء سيرهما في الشارع يصادفان رجلاً، يلتفت الرجل إلى ناستنكا ويناديها، ويتضح أنَّه حبيبها الذي تراسله، فتقفز إلى ذراعيه فرحاً، وتعود إلى الراوي لتعطيه قبلة سريعة، ولكنَّها تُكمل ليلتها في صحبة حبيبها، تاركةً الراوي وحيداً مجروح المشاعر.

About the book

White Nights (in Russian: Белые ночи) is a short story written by Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky. The story is one of his early works and was first published in 1848. Like many of Dostoyevsky's books the story is told from the perspective of the anonymous narrator and in the story the narrator lives in St. Petersburg suffering from loneliness. This story is one of his best short stories and was shown to the cinema in Russia Italy France America India and Iran. The main topic of the story is the relationship between the narrator - the main character anonymous - and his newly known girlfriend "Nastinka". The narrator falls in love with Nastinka but he does not acknowledge his love for her while Nastinka is deeply loving another man who refuses to respond to her letters. Both escape from the feeling of despair to this friendly friendship. The narrator escapes from his loneliness and Nastinka escapes from her lukewarm relationship with her boyfriend. Nastinka asks the narrator to help her write letters to her lover and she does not know that the narrator loves her too much but rather tells him: I love you because you did not fall in love with me. Because of his intense love for her the narrator begins to feel alienated in her company because he is forced to pretend that he does not love her. When her lover does not respond to her letters Nastinka feels desperate especially since her lover lives in the same city so she resorts to her boyfriend perhaps he consoled her which causes the narrator to associate her with his love for her. Nastinka initially feels confused which the narrator did not expect and then he feels that after this incident he will not be able to pursue his friendship with her insisting that she not see her again but she asks him to stay. The two take to the street telling him that their relationship may one day turn into a romantic relationship and she clearly wants his friendship in her life so the narrator feels reassured that he was able to maintain her friendship at least. While walking on the street they encounter a man the man turns to Nastinka and calls her and it turns out that he is the lover that she is writing to so she jumps to his arms with joy and returns to the narrator to give him a quick kiss but she completes her night in the company of her lover leaving the narrator alone wounded.
