การประปาส่วนภูมิภาค มีภาระหน้าที่ในการผลิต จัดส่ง และจำหน่ายน้ำประปาทั่วประเทศ รวมทั้งดำเนินธุรกิจอื่น ที่เกี่ยวกับหรือต่อเนื่องกับธุรกิจประปา เพื่อประโยชน์ ในการบริการสาธารณูปโภค โดยคำนึงประโยชน์ของรัฐ และ สุขภาพอนามัยของประชาชนเป็นสำคัญปัจจุบันได้แบ่งสายการ ปฎิบัติงานออกเป็น 10 เขต ดูแลรับผิดชอบ การประปาส่วนภูมิภาคในสังกัดทั่วประเทศ ยกเว้นพื้นที่ กทม. นนทบุรี และ สมุทรปราการ
