عدي بن ربيعة التغلبي الملقب الزير أبو ليلى المهلهل، (توفي 94 ق.هـ/531 م). أحد فرسان قبيلة تغلب الذين كانت ديارهم في شمال شرق الجزيرة العربية وأطراف العراق والشام وكان شاعرا يكنى بأبي ليلى بالمهلهل، وأحد أبطال العرب في الجاهلية وقد كان له من الذرية ابنتان هما: ليلى وعبيدة، فأما ليلى فهي أم الشاعر عمرو بن كلثوم التغلبي، وأما عبيدة فهي أم قوم يقال لهم عبيدة من جنب من مذحج وقال البعض أن الزير خال الشاعر امرئ القيس الكندي. سمي بالمهلهل لأنه أول من هلهل الشعر (أي رققه). عاش في شبه الجزيرة العربية. وبعد حرب البسوس رحلت تغلب إلى شمال العراق والجزيرة الفراتية وديار ربيعة فعاشوا هناك.
